Calgary, Alberta, is a city of more than one million people – and growing. It is the largest city in the province and the fifth largest city in Canada. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the city celebrates its Western heritage every July with the Calgary Stampede. Billed as the “greatest outdoor show on earth,” the Stampede was begun in 1912 by American Guy Weadick. Today, by some accounts, Calgary has the largest per capita population of U.S. citizens outside the United States.
